Wesley Chapel: built-ins and a 72" fireplace in two days, $10,835

Classic molding media wall with a 65-inch TV and 72-inch electric fireplace, Wesley Chapel NC

The homeowners wanted a classic style for their living room. We built a molding frame from MDF around a 65" TV and a 72" Touchstone electric fireplace the homeowners bought on our recommendation, then added a 60" mantel in natural wood. On both sides we installed cabinets, painted them white in three coats (primer plus two coats of paint), and topped them with natural wood laid in a chevron pattern. We also repainted the two walls above the cabinets.

A project like this usually takes two to four days. The homeowners asked us to rush it, so our crew finished in two. Total: $10,835, materials and labor included. The fireplace insert itself is not in that number.

What drives the price of a media wall

  1. Wall size and ceiling height. A two-story wall needs scaffolding and more material. Our 20-foot slat wall still took one day, but double-height projects usually run five to eight days.
  2. A fireplace. Framing for an electric insert moves a wall into the $7,500 tier. You buy the insert, and we help you pick a model that fits. We also build around existing gas or wood fireplaces without touching the unit, gas line or chimney.
  3. Cabinets and shelving. Storage is the biggest jump. Walls with base cabinets start at $9,500, and custom pieces are built in our own shop.
  4. Finish materials. Painted MDF molding costs less than natural wood veneer, real stone or marble-look panels.
  5. Lighting, niches and electrical. LED strips, lit niches and new outlets add cost. A licensed, insured electrician on our team handles the wiring.
